why french conversation class
I wanted to create a relaxed environment where people can practice their spoken French. The aim is to provide confidence in every day situations for:
Planned trips to France
People looking to emigrate or purchase holiday properties
Working with French colleagues or meeting new people.
Studying for French Language qualifications
Teachers starting the new National Curriculum including Foreign Languages from the age of 7 or parents looking to help their children.
People who enjoy speaking French and just want to practice.
I structure each class to put people together with similar abilities so groups range from complete beginners through to fluent speakers.
Class sizes are limited to 7 so that everyone can get involved and becomes part of the group. We break half way through each lesson which provides an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other. I also include games as part of the lesson and on occasion an opportunity to ask questions directly to my French neighbour in La Rochelle over a Zoom call .
what we cover
For beginners classes are structured to cover everyday situations such as:
Greetings, introductions, saying how you are feeling.
Ordering things from the bakery
Buying things from the market / supermarket
Ordering at a cafe / restaurant
Understanding and giving simple directions
Describing your local area
Talking about family members
Talking about hobbies
Talking about the weather
Months of the year and birthdays
For more experienced speakers we will pick a current topic each week to discuss and through group discussion we will explore new areas of spoken French.
